Gottschalk was an early (1829-1869) American composer and pianist.
This CD contains a number of piano pieces, the Grand Tarantelle for Piano and Orchestra and the two movement symphony, A Night in the Tropics. This is an old favorite of mine from a pair of LPs. The newly engineered version sounds just great. The piano pieces are light, brisk, friendly and energizing (its possible to dull them down as Alan Marks did in another CD). And the symphonic pieces are the same. This visit to the tropics is absolutely wonderful at Christmas-time if you live in a part of the world where its cold at Christmas. A night in the tropics is just what you need!
